Achilles Rupture Recovery

w19 / A bit more normality

The freedom that driving brings / whac-a-mole pains

Normality returning leads to some near misses

(Feb 24th-Mar 1st: 2 mins read – just notes at the moment, I’m afraid!)

TL;DR:

– Some idiot moves:
trip over a root / take the stairs two at a time
– Barefoot walking
– Progress with the new rehab exercises
– It’s great being able to drive again ๐Ÿ™

Physical health (& progressions)

A summary of this week’s physical stuff with various metrics to monitor progress.

Body statistics / metrics

Weight: 68.1kg / 150lbs

Calf size: 34.5cm (morning)

Knees-toes: 5cm (warmed-up)

Elongation: < not tested >

Single leg load:

Double leg deficit:

Real-world movement / exercise

Walking: On Saturday 28th Feb, after getting nicely warmed up, I could walk pretty normally barefoot at home in the hall.

Cycling: Stationary bike load at 150W.

(Note: see here for benefits of low load cycling for Achilles rehab)

Climbing: Bouldering on Sunday saw me doing some reasonably hard bouldering … almost all in the low, overhang ‘cave’ of the small bouldering hall at the gym. A good range of different difficulties where I can climb 2/3 or so of multiple routes without being in touching distance of the mat.

Mental Health (& daily happenings)

Monday saw me awake at 3 am – again, I’ve slept long enough not be able to drop off, those thoughts come one after another.

“Come Fight a Real Man”

Bruce Lee: I’m not exactly sure that I would call him a childhood hero – I don’t think I even knew about him until I was a teenager, probably 10 years after he died (20th July, 1973).
